Cub Scout Pack 200

Policies & Guiding Principles

1.   Pack 200 intends to provide a quality Scouting Program based on the extensive experience of the Boy Scouts of America.  Pack 200 leaders will participate in formal training offered by the Boy Scouts of America to enhance our monthly program.

2.   Because 7-10 year old boys have tremendous energy but limited attention spans, formal Pack Meetings will start on time, and will be typically limited to 1 hour.  To help keep Cub Scout's attention, Pack Business and Activity Sign-ups will be limited to before and after the formal Pack meeting.

3.  To help encourage all Cub Scouts to accomplish their achievements, each Pack Meeting will feature the recent accomplishments of the boys including crafts, projects and activities.

4.   To help Cub Scouts learn responsibility, Dens will be assigned appropriate set-up and clean-up activities on a rotating basis for each pack meeting.

5.  We are guests of Derry Presbyterian Church.  Other groups are frequently meeting at the same time.  To encourage Cub Scouts to treat other groups and the facilities with respect, Cub Scouts will remain with their Den unless permission is granted to go elsewhere.  Running is prohibited in the church at all times.

6.  Advancement in Rank is an important milestone in Cub Scouting. To ensure appropriate recognition, all awards and advancements completed by the Monday before the pack meeting will be presented at that month's Pack Meeting.

7.   To provide an equal opportunity for all boys, Advancement in Rank (Wolf, Bear, etc.) is to be accomplished by the last scheduled pack meeting for each year (typically June).

8.   Because 7-10 year old boys have tremendous energy, Dens are typically limited to 8 boys.  This will require additional leaders as additional boys join the pack.

9.   Pack 200 is committed to practicing the ideals of Scouting "to help other people".  It is the policy of Pack 200 that no Cub Scout should be limited in his accomplishments due to any unusual family circumstances, including but not limited to financial considerations. Please see the Cub Master or Committee Chairman with any problems; due discretion will be used at all times.

10. If due to bad weather, the Derry Presbyterian Church cancels all programming (which is announced through local TV and Radio stations), our Scout Program will be cancelled.  Other cancellations will be determined at the agreement of the Cub Master and Committee Chairman.  If a cancellation is determined the Cub Master and Committee Chairman will start a phone call communication chain to the Den Leaders.

11. All requests for exceptions to Pack 200 Policies must be made in person at a regularly scheduled Pack Committee meeting.  All reasonable requests will be carefully considered.

Expectations of Parents/Guardians

1.  Any organization of this size without paid staff requires all members to participate in running the program.  Cub Scout registrations will be accepted in conjunction with parent/guardian volunteering for available positions.

2.   Scouting is a family activity.  All parents/guardians will help their Cub Scout in the following ways:

a. At least one parent/guardian will attend the monthly pack meeting with his/her Cub Scout.

b. Parents/guardians will work with their Cub Scouts to help them reach their potential, and to the fullest extent possible, achieve the ranks of Cub Scouting.

c. While some of the requirements for Advancement in Rank will be completed during the weekly Den Meetings, there is not sufficient time to accomplish all of the requirements.  Accordingly, parents will help Cub Scouts choose the activities that they wish to accomplish to earn their next Rank, and work with them to complete these activities.

  1. Because 7-10 year old boys have tremendous energy, parents/guardians will attend Den meetings on a rotating basis to assist the registered Den Leaders in meeting activities.
